Well, I posted yesterday that Raven got up on her knees but we haven't seen it since. But I'm sure she will soon!
However, yesterday she ALSO started open-handed clapping... yay! And she LOVES to do that and repeat that!
Heh, welcome to my Baby Book. ;) If I don't write it here... I might forget to write it somewhere else.

Up... Up...
... but not quite away yet.
Raven has figured out how to get up on her hands and knees and the rocking and lunging has become, much to Julia's consternation... :)
Raven showed me this delightful move this morning and I applauded her like crazy. Julia just screamed, "Pelp! Pelp! Mommy!!!" as Raven lunged and grabbed a fistful of Julia's hair.
It has begun. :)

Little Picasso
Hee, hee, I'm sure I've used this subject line before.
Julia was drawing this morning ("Draw, Mama!") and she loves to draw faces ("Face!" "Eyes!" "Eyes!" "Eyes!"). Normally It's a circle here and a dot there but today I was pretty impressed with the faces she drew... they all had eyes and noses and mouths... yay, Julia!
Yah. Mama is proud. Can you tell? :)

Day 6: Jacksonville
Saturday, May 15, 2010
On Saturday, Melissa took us back to Jacksonville so that we could head back home. We first went to a big flea market just north of Jacksonville. I bought the girls "name" belts... will have to show them off some time!
Then we headed down to the River Street Brewing Company... it was in a neat location! Right on the river. There was a neat water sculpture just outside of it as well. And inside there was a koi pond and Julia *loved* it.
Auntie Lis tried a bit of lemon with Raven... she went right for it, but of course, it was a still a bit sour... hence, the face!
Then we went to the airport and hung out for a couple of hours until our plane left. We had an uneventful flight home, though, of course, it was raining our whole drive home from Kansas City. Heh. We arrived home at about 12:30 in the morning.
What a fun trip! It was great to see my sister again after so long and also neat to see the Southeast.

Day 5: More Traveling About
Friday, May 14, 2010
On Friday, we did a number of things. First, we headed out to Jekyll Island. Jekyll Island has an amazing history and there were some really neat things to see there... the Horton House ruins, the Jekyll Island Clubhouse, and the Georgia Sea Turtle Center. It was neat to drive around the island and view the historical sights.
The Jekyll Island Clubhouse
Horton House Site Ruins
The Sea Turtle Center
After Jekyll Island, we drove back to Brunswick for lunch. Remember the bridge we saw from St. Simons Island? Today we drove over it!
While we were eating lunch, we decided to head back to Savannah for the day. We browsed some brochures and decided to check out Winsloe, a historic plantation site. Again... so neat! We love the history in Georgia and learned about the first Georgian settlers. Noble Jones was one of the first settlers and started the Winslow (later, Winsloe) plantation.
The plantation house was made of tabby, an interesting concoction of lime, oyster shells, and sand. (The warehouse ruins on Jekyll were as well). Family members of Noble Jones actually still own the plantation house built in the 1800's.
Noble Jone's great-grandson planted an avenue of trees; the live oak.
The great-grandson also built the entrance "gate" into the plantation grounds.
This is a picture of the house ruins.
After Winsloe, we drove into Savannah and checked out the City Market (an area of town) after dinner at the Moon River Brewing Company. It was a fun family night and afterwards we headed back to Jesup.

Day 4: St. Simons Island
Thursday, May 13, 2010
It's Day 4 and today Raven turns 8 months old! YAY, Raven!
Today was a family beach day, so we all drove to St. Simons Island, Georgia, to hang out at the ocean.
Before arriving at St. Simons, we drove through Brunswick, another old town on the coast.
Then we drove north to see a plantation... but, due to timing issues, we weren't able to go on the tour. But, we saw some AMAZING live oaks... AMAZING.
Here is a close-up of Adam with Julia underneath the limb of one...
And... the same tree with Adam and Julia... WOW!
We all had a great time at the beach! YAY! Adam was able to get Raven to nap again, and Julia LOVED the water, espeically considering that a sandbar kept the big waves from rolling into the shore. Raven also really enjoyed the water. How fun!
After the beach, we checked out the St. Simons pier, and we could see the Brunswick/I-17 bridge... so cool! We ended up driving over it on Friday.
After driving back to Jesup, we loaded up some grilled yummies for dinner and drove out to an area lake. Julia couldn't get enough of the water for the day and took multiple trips to the edge of the lake to check out the water and flowers. Julia talked up a storm with Ty, picked flowers with Auntie Lissy, and ALSO found some amazingly large pine cones. Fun!
Another fun day... a long day, and goodness, we were tired and sandy this night! But we had so much fun!

Day 3: Savannah
Wednesday, May 12, 2010
On Wednesday, we had decided that we would go to Savannah with Melissa and her husband, Ty. I've always wanted to go to Savannah, so I was very excited to finally be spending a day there.
We planned to meet Melissa and Ty at the Moon River Brewing Company around noon, so we left early and arrived in Savannah to drive around a bit and see the town.
Our first stop was Bonaventure Cemetery. Bonaventure has been around for a couple of centuries, but it became more popular when the book, "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil", was written by John Berendt. I have always wanted to see this cemetery since reading the book; it has a mystic quality about it.
Some "famous" people are buried there; I honestly have no idea who they are. There is also an older neat cemetery in Savannah that we didn't get a chance to visit (though we drove by it). However, there were a lot of neat grave stones/markers.
I was quite intrigued by this picture, as Julia's name is Julia Morgan, and the name Julia is based from Julius for Julius Caesar.
Also, whether you know or not, the south is famous for Spanish Moss... and we saw it everywhere! The live oaks were covered with it and of course we had to check it out.
After visiting the cemetery, we enjoyed lunch and beers at the Moon River Brewing Company.
After lunch we headed down to River Street with Ty and Melissa and we really enjoyed our time there. We were able to carry alcohol on the street in plastic cups, so Adam had a beer and Ty, Lis, and I had daquiris. Julia had a fabulous time looking at the water, boats, etc. There were a few times I was afraid we might lose her over the edge.
After we left River Street, we drove out to Tybee Island. What a neat place! We drove to the end of the island and walked out to the beach. While there, we learned about sand dollars via a bulletin board... but it wasn't until Thursday that I learned about the "holes" in the sand... in the picture below, you might be able to see "holes", and we learned from my sister that those are breathing holes for sand dollars.
After Tybee Island, we ate dinner at Tubby's seafood restaurant in Thunderbolt. Yum! We had a great time there!
Julia loved the fish on the walls and was wowed by all of the fishing implements on the walls. Hee! This was when Raven started to show interest in table food... and she only got more ravenous after this date!
We drove back to Jesup that night and we were T-I-R-E-D! Time to rest and gear up for another beach day the next day!
