Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday, Adam! :)

It is Adam's (my husband's) 31st birthday today! :) WOOHOO!

We went out for dinner last Friday (kind of) for his birthday when we were in Des Moines. Adam is busy this week on an event, so who knows when he will be home tonight. However, it is still a special day! And, next Tuesday we go out to dinner with friends Alecia and Jesse to celebrate Adam and Jesse's birthdays -- Jesse's birthday is tomorrow. This will be our third year going out for dinner with them for the birthdays.

And... another special remembrance for today... a year ago today was when we found out I was pregnant with Julia. How crazy! And to think that we have a 4 mo old baby now! :)

Raffle Quilt Tickets for Sale!

The Pella Area Quilters Guild is once again holding their Quilt Show during Tulip Time (the show runs Wednesday, April 30 - Saturday, May 2 at the Pella Opera House).

I am going to use my blog to shamelessly plug the sale of raffle tickets for the quilt pictured here.
If you are interested, let me know. The cost is $1 / ticket.
(Sorry, no 6 for $5 this year...)

The quilt is 68" x 80" and would be perfect as a lap quilt in someone's living room, family room, or den. :)

Thanks!
Erin

Sunlight

I love how the sunlight comes into Julia's room in midafternoon. I took these pictures of her the other day during "Tummy Time" and absolutely love them... (and her, of course!).

A new video... enjoy!

DSM & New Pictures

Hi!

Most of you don't know this... but while I was pregnant, I joined an online "Birth Month Club" forum and talked to women from all over the world. In October, about 30 of us started our own forum and talk to each other daily about... well, everything.

Just a few weeks ago, one of the gals moved from Chicago-area to Grimes (near Des Moines). I was so excited that one would be living so close to me! Yesterday we met up in Des Moines at one of the malls. Her son, Adam, is 16 days older than Julia and is super cute. Here is a picture of Julia and Adam together (Julia is sleeping...)

It was wonderful to meet Stephenie; she's such a kick! We had a lot fo fun yesterday!

Here are some newer pictures of Julia. She is a little turkey, our girl! She has figured out that cameras take pictures, and now doesn't seem to want to smile at the camera too often. However, every once in a while I get a good one of her.

"You're taking a picture of WHO? ME???"

"Hi, Mommy! I'm so cute!"

About Me...

A friend emailed this "About Me" email earlier this week and I figured I would answer the questions (that I wanted to answer) and post them here...

Have a good Sunday!

1. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE? My middle name is after my grandpa John. (My middle name is Jo.)

2. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOUR CRIED? No idea. I’m recalling crying recently… but when it actually was, I couldn’t tell you.

3. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING? No. My handwriting sucks. But that’s okay. That’s what happens when you spend all of your time on the computer. You handwriting muscles lose their focus (or so I have led myself to believe).

4. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH MEAT? Um. I don’t like lunchmeat very much. (Sorry, Alecia, but pepperoni is not a lunchmeat…!!! Hee, hee!) I guess summer sausage would be my favorite.

5. DO YOU HAVE KIDS? Yep. A daughter, Julia.

6. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS WITH YOU?
Yes, why not? We all need weird and square friends.

7. DO YOU USE SARCASM? Often.

8. DO YOU STILL HAVE YOUR TONSILS? As far as I know.

9. WOULD YOU BUNGEE JUMP? Never.

10. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CEREAL? Lucky Charms, followed by Cocoa Krispies.

11. DO YOU UNTIE YOUR SHOES WHEN YOU TAKE THEM OFF? Not usually; I don’t wear a lot of shoes with ties.

12. I thought this was a dumb question, so I deleted it.

13. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM? Plain chocolate… or Blue Bunny’s Banana Split

14. WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE ABOUT PEOPLE? Lately I find myself looking at shoes (because Mary always has amazing shoes and I like shoes a lot…)… but otherwise, their eyes. And their physical attitude.

15. RED OR PINK? Um. I have to pick one? You are kidding… I refuse to pick one. I love them both!

16. I also didn’t like question 16. I’m not in the mood to rag on myself today.

17. WHAT COLOR PANTS & SHOES ARE YOU WEARING? Jeans with a hole in the leg. (I should really patch that… hmm…) No shoes. I am barefoot and in my house right now.

18. WHAT WAS THE LAST THING YOU ATE? Grilled cheese.

19. WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW? The sound of my washer finishing its cycle.

20. IF YOU WERE A CRAYON, WHAT COLOR WOULD YOU BE? Fuchsia.

21. FAVORITE SMELLS? Clean laundry. Hands down.

22. WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON YOU TALKED TO ON THE PHONE? Jamey W.

23. FAVORITE SPORTS TO WATCH? The Packers

24. HAIR COLOR? brown

25. EYE COLOR? Greenish. Hazel.

26. DO YOU WEAR CONTACTS? Yes. But I’m starting to think that I hate them.

27. FAVORITE FOOD? If chocolate is a food, then I pick chocolate.

28. SCARY MOVIES OR HAPPY ENDINGS? If I have to pick one of these two, I go with Happy Endings.

29. LAST MOVIE YOU WATCHED? Hmm… The Mummy w/ Director Commentary. (Okay, we didn’t finish it yet, but I can’t remember the last movie I watched before that.)

30. WHAT COLOR SHIRT ARE YOU WEARING? Black “Live Bait” T-shirt

31. SUMMER OR WINTER? Winter. Hands down.

32. FAVORITE DESSERT? Lemon Meringue Pie or Cheesecake

33. WHAT BOOK ARE YOU READING NOW? “Chicks with Sticks (It’s a Purl Thing)” by Elizabeth Lenhard

34. WHAT IS ON YOUR MOUSE PAD? No mouse pad

35. WHAT DID YOU WATCH ON TV LAST NIGHT? Didn’t watch TV last night.

36. FAVORITE SOUND(S)? Julia’s laughter is very infectious and very cute. And I love the sound of rain and thunderstorms.

37. ROLLING STONES OR BEATLES? Beatles

38. WHAT IS THE FARTHEST YOU HAVE BEEN FROM HOME? Brisbane, Australia

39. DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL TALENT? Doubtful.

40. WHERE WERE YOU BORN? Neenah, WI

Julia's Baptism

Hi, all! Julia was baptized today into her church here in Pella -- Trinity Reformed Church.f We had a really fun day!

Julia's grandparents (Ron & Marcia and Jeff & Sue) drove down from Wisconsin. Great-Grandpa John and Cousin Laila also came for a visit. Julia was baptized during the 10:45 service. After the baptism, Daddy sang a song called "Julia" by The Beatles. It was absolutely beautiful!

Here are a few pictures. When I have some video of the song, I hope to post it.

Hugs!

Erin

The Last Day of February...? Not this year!

Hee, hee! It's a Leap Year!

I don't know why that excites me so much... I mean, it's just one extra day in February. Anyway.

Life is good in the Draeger household, if a little stressful. Both Adam and I are experiencing a few stressers at work, which makes home life all the more sweet. And, good news; no one has been sick the last few weeks!

Julia is surprising us and changing on a regular basis!
  • She has been sleeping in her crib now since the 18th, although this mommy refuses to jinx herself just yet by putting the bassinet in storage.
  • She sleeps regularly for about 7 - 9 hours a night now! WOOHOO! Mommy LOVES this! :)
  • Julia was 3 months old on Sunday! WOW! It has been three months since she has been born! It's very hard to believe!
  • She's a lot more 'vocal' now... she loves to 'talk' and daddy loves to try and make her talk.
  • She loves her hanging toys! It's fun to watch her play with them and try to catch them with her hands (and feet)!

I thought I'd put a little video in this time instead of just pictures... we have a lot of fun catching Julia on video, if we can. Lately she seems to think the camera is more of something to just look at as opposed to smiling for it.

Today I'm getting my hair cut... FINALLY! I haven't had it cut since September and I'm ready for a lift... or a complete change! Who knows! We'll let my hairdresser decide...! I will post pictures later!

Also... Julia will be baptized on March 9th! We're so excited for her to be baptized into our church and furthermore, for family to be visiting and celebrating with us.

Otherwise... the next week will be geared towards cleaning the house and picking it up so that we feel good about having a lot of people here.

Hugs to you all!
Erin

Just a few notes...

Good morning!

Good news! Julia is completely healthy again... and so are Adam and me. We're all very happy to be back to 'normal' again.

Julia has begun to sleep longer stretches at night... our longest so far is 9 hours, but we're hovering around 7 - 8. This has been wonderful for all of us and our sleeping habits! And, Julia slept in her crib IN HER ROOM for the first time on the 18th... SHE had no problem sleeping 8 hours that night, but mommy was up every 1.5 hours checking on her little girl.

This last weekend Julia stayed home with daddy so that I could go to my quilt guild retreat. We all had a nice weekend and did well. From what I hear, Julia even slept most of Saturday so Adam could putter around the house.

Here are a few pictures to share with you all.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Illness Recovery and More Photos

Hi, all!

We started off February with trip to the hospital. Julia was admitted last Saturday for RSV, and after two day stay, we finally went home Monday night. Adam and I also both ended up sick, so we have had a house full of sickos and we're all trying to recover. Too bad Julia isn't old enough to go get mommy more water. ;) We are hoping that we all be feeling tip-top again by sometime next week. Until then, we pretty much stay in the house so we don't pass our germs onto some unsuspecting soul.

Otherwise, Julia is in love with her hands and loves to put them in her mouth and her eyes. It's necessary to keep her nails clipped nice and short, as she has pretty much given herself a rash by scratching her forehead... it's almost funny! But she thinks her fingers taste divine, and sometimes better than mom's milk, as I often have to hold down her hands now when she is nursing.

She's a lively little thing, even when she's sick.

I hope you enjoy the pictures!
